Traditional Dhow- 1 rupee
This stamp was issued in 1964 by the Emirate of Ras Al Khaima (رأس الخيمة) and printed by the British security printer Harrison & Sons Ltd. The central vignette features a detailed rendering of a traditional lateen-rigged Arabian dhow cutting through coastal waters, honoring the emirate's deep maritime heritage, pearling history, and historic seafaring routes. The central scene is framed symmetrically by elegant vertical borders composed of complex geometric Islamic star tiles and interlacing knotwork. This issue marked part of Ras Al Khaimah's initial, independent step toward defining its own administrative sovereignty and localized postal identity before the unification of the UAE.
