This stamp belongs to the landmark 1964 foundational wildlife collection issued natively for the Emirate of Ajman (عجمان). Framed along the top running edge by the series' signature gold arabesque scrolling filigree, the horizontal vignette illustrates two White-eyed Gulls (Larus leucophthalmus) gliding across a coastal sky. Endemic to the Red Sea and Gulf regions, this medium-sized gull is distinguished by its jet-black hood, slender dark bill, and bright white crescent markings surrounding the eyes. Balanced on the left by the formal portrait of the ruler, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, this issue represents a regular utility rate within Ajman's early independent communications network.
