Centenary of Stanley Gibbons Philatelic Publishing & London 1965
In 1865, Edward Stanley Gibbons published his first formal price list of postage stamps in Plymouth, England, laying the foundation for what would become Stanley Gibbons Ltd one of the world's most prestigious philatelic publishing and stamp dealing houses. The 100th anniversary of this milestone was celebrated at the London 1965 International Stamp Exhibition, which brought together global collectors to showcase classical postal history rarities and the evolution of philatelic publishing. Issued by the postal administration of Ajman (عجمان) for the London 1965 Centenary Exhibition, this issue commemorates both the 1865 Gibbons catalogue and classical philatelic history. The vignette pairs a reproduction of the original 1865 Stanley Gibbons Price List & Catalogue (featuring Great Britain's 1d Penny Black) alongside the famous 1846 Alexandria, Virginia Postmaster's Provision Stamp ("Alexandria Paid 5"), one of the rarest provisional issues in American postal history.
