Issued in the 1960s, this stamp commemorates the UNESCO International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, launched in response to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The project threatened numerous ancient Egyptian and Nubian archaeological sites, prompting a major international effort to document, dismantle, relocate, and preserve some of the world's most important historical monuments before they were submerged.
