Science, Transport and Telecommunications - Greek Messengers
Issued in the 1960s as part of the Science, Transport and Telecommunications series of Sharjah & Dependencies, this stamp commemorates the ancient Greek messengers who carried official communications, military dispatches, and public announcements over long distances. Before the invention of modern communication systems, runners and messengers were essential for transmitting information between cities, governments, and armies, playing a crucial role in the administration and organization of ancient societies. By featuring Greek messengers, Sharjah & Dependencies highlighted the historical origins of human communication and the evolution of message delivery through the centuries. The issue celebrated the development of communication systems from ancient times to the modern era, emphasizing humanity's enduring efforts to exchange information more quickly, efficiently, and across ever greater distances.
